Radial Mystery

For this project, I was tasked with using my developing design skills to create a 3D piece using a laser cutter. The goal was to create a layered work that utilized color and pattern to explore depth and dimension. One of my main inspirations for this piece was Hazel Glass, particularly the color palettes and sense of mysticism present in her work. Though seemingly simple, this piece required extensive preparation and planning. I spent considerable time preparing the file for laser cutting and utilizing a variety of tools to create the layered design. I also spent a significant amount of time hand-painting each layer with acrylic paint, carefully painting the intricate inner lines while leaving the areas where the layers would be glued together unpainted. Though this is one of my earliest works, it remains a personal favorite. I enjoyed the process of combining digital fabrication with hands-on painting, and the finished piece hung on my dorm room wall for at least two years.
